Mobile MenuWe have been writing about and working with mobile-responsive design for a few years now.  Up until April of this year, building or switching to a mobile-friendly platform was a good idea, but – in my estimation – not a “must have”.

That changed on April 21st, 2015 when Google announced that “we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal.”  They make it sound so friendly!  But what does it mean?

It means that, as of April 21st, mobile-responsive sites will get an automatic boost in search rank.  Sites that are not optimized for mobile devices will be penalized when it comes to search rank (SEO).

The bottom line: if your site is already mobile-responsive, your site’s Google page rank will improve – making it easier for people to find you via Google search.  If your site is not mobile-friendly, your website will take a page rank hit, making it harder for people to find you on the Web.

The good news; it’s easy to test whether your site is mobile responsive.  You can use this handy Google Developer tool: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

Or, you can use our Responsinator to see how your site performs on a range of mobile devices:
